Swim Lessons

This past week Andrew along with his best friend Charlie took swim lessons. The two of them went every day for 30 minutes. It was nice because they were private lessons, so they got individualized attention. Andrew has always loved the water and was already comfortable putting his face in. This week he worked a lot on swimming and jumping off of the diving board. Charlie was scared the first day and screamed the minute they told him to come into the poool. This did not last long, though. By the time we picked up the boys, Charlie did not want to leave. I think it's safe to say he is no longer scared of the water! Both boys still need their water wings but are doing SO good. Their instructors said that at this age their little muscles just aren't strong enough to really hold them up for any period of time, so the wings are the best option. Soon, though, they will be stronger and won't need them. All in all, it was a GREAT week of lessons!
Here is Andrew learning to swim to the side of the pool.

And Charlie learning to swim to the side.
Andrew learning to float on his back.
Learning to blow bubbles in the water.
Getting ready to try and jump off the diving board. He was a little nervous about this. He LOVES jumping off the side of the pool whenever we go swimming, so we know it was not that he is scared of going in the water. He is, however, a little afraid of heights we've noticed. So, we think he feels a little insecure about being on the diving board suspended over the water.
He felt more comfortable if someone was standing beside him. His instructor was not even touching him for the most part, she was just standing there. This gave him enough confidence to jump in. Here he goes......

In fact, he REALLY liked Charlie to stand on the diving board with him and "count." Charlie's counting, however, turned into Charlie giving him a nudge into the water each time...and Andrew LOVED it! He would beg Charlie to do it again. It became a game between the two of them.

Check out the video....hilarious!

Thank you, Mrs. Jennifer and Mrs. Becky for a great week of lessons! The boys had a blast and are doing so well in the water!
